A dioecious, evergreen tree that is drought-tolerant, heat-resistant, fire-resistant, and can withstand pruning and grazing. The carob tree blooms three times a year, with abundant flowering at the end of summer. Its fruit is edible, and textile gum is prepared from the seeds.
