The square, known by the residents of the city as the “Spike Square” was designed by the architect Yoram Miller and stands on the only mini-tunnel in the city. It is one of the most expensive projects built in Ashdod in the nineties. Already from a distance you can notice a silver cone, obelisk-like, sticking out from its center. For years, a long laser beam was emitted from the top of the cone that could be seen far away, but its operation was stopped following a claim that it interfered with the navigation of vessels in the city’s maritime space.
