The building was designed by the architect Yosef Cohen, and is modest, instills an intimate atmosphere and resembles in its appearance the beautiful synagogue that stood in the village of Chanmangalam, where some of the members of the congregation lived. But while the original synagogue was mostly made of wood coated with bronze, the one in Ashdod was built in stone due to the climatic conditions. The prayer hall has six arched upper windows and is lit by three magnificent chandeliers.
