The highest site in the city is one of its distinct symbols. According to the different traditions in the three major religions, this is the burial place of Jonah the prophet. The hill, located in the northwest of the city, was used as a strategic observation point throughout different periods in history, and the Ashdod harbor lighthouse was even built there.
