The Ashdod Municipality and the Tourism Society are constantly working on developing the river and Lachish Park as a unique tourist center for the city of Ashdod, expected to attract hundreds and thousands of visitors from all over the country throughout the year.
At the current stage, a floating cube-shaped path has been set up, from which 10 kayaks (only) descend into the water, which will operate and paddle for about 1.5 kilometers – from the Challenge Park area to near the river’s mouth into the sea. In the designated kayaking area, kayaks will be rented to the public (under continuous supervision and management), and users must comply with all necessary safety rules. All kayaking routes will be monitored by cameras throughout the activity period, and independent environmental quality checks will also be conducted by the Union of Municipalities.
In addition to the return of kayaking, Ashdod Tourism sees great importance in continuing to promote “green tourism” that combines enjoyment of the river and its surroundings with education on the importance of preserving the rich natural and biological diversity in the park.
