Please don’t worry about it

For thousands of years, Ashdod has been a center of cultural life for the peoples of the region, for merchants and for all those passing across the Great Sea. Since then, the city, which also receives a large number of immigrants to Israel, remains a wonderful melting pot of traditions, cultures and communities from all over the world. Many of its cultural institutions, the most important of which are located in Kiryat Zilcher, have won national and international recognition. Beyond the institutions themselves, Ashdod is influenced by the hundreds of magnificent sculptures and monuments that adorn every corner, and a wide variety of culture takes place every year outside the city.

Monart Center for the Arts

Those who come to visit the bustling heart of the city cannot help but admire the multidisciplinary cultural center, which overlooks Ashdod’s waterfront and looks like a copy of the famous Louvre museum in Paris, thanks to its large glass pyramid roof. The Ashdod Art Museum, artists of the Mishkan Theater, the opera, the chamber orchestra, the urban conservatory of Akdom and more operate within the center’s boundaries. The many cultural and art events held in the complex attract many visitors every year.

Performing Arts Center

The Municipal Culture Hall, considered one of the most interesting and beautiful architectural buildings in Israel, has become over the years one of the symbols of the city of Ashdod. The central concert hall in the city, one of the largest of its kind in Israel, hosts a variety of cultural events including concerts, theater performances and many public events, and hosts artists from Israel and the world.

Ashdod sea route

The largest open air theater in Israel, located in Yam Ashdod Park, holds 6,400 spectators and offers an unforgettable experience. The impressive amphitheater is designed in the shape of a clam made of canopies that spread out like sails on the seabed, so that the audience can sit and watch the performances in front of the spectacular sunset. During the year, many cultural events and wonderful productions by artists from home and abroad take place here.

Ashdod Art Museum

The impressive public museum, designed by the architect Moshe Lowenfeld as part of the Monart complex, presents modern art – local and international – and creates a continuous dialogue between the generations through exhibitions of both veteran and contemporary artists. The museum’s exhibits combine various media fields, and many of the exhibits point to the unique beauty of the multicultural city. Alongside the changing exhibits, the museum also includes an interactive children’s pavilion dealing with environmental quality called ‘Green Diver’.

The Museum of Palestinian Culture, named after Corinne Meman

The only museum in the world for Palestinian culture presents the fascinating history of the city during the biblical period, and is entirely dedicated to Palestinian culture. Although it is an archaeological museum, here you will find a real reference relevant to our society, and the acceptance of the other and the different despite the difference and despite prejudices. Many of the museum’s exhibits are in keeping with the multicultural nature of the city, with the guiding line being tolerance and moderation.
